Film to be made on Sidhu Moose Wala's life and murder, here's what to expect | Explained

Indian singer and rapper Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead by unidentified assailants in his car on 29 May 2022 in Jawaharke village of Mansa. Over a year-and-a-half later, a film/series is to be made on his life and unexpected and tragic death.

Production house Matchbox Shots has acquired the rights to Jupinderjit Singh’s book titled Who Killed Moosewala? The Spiralling Story of Violence in Punjab.

A statement doing the rounds read- “The book delves into the ominous influence of drugs and the eruption of violence driven by gangsters’ growing dominance in Punjab. The narrative is more than just a mystery; it paints a comprehensive picture of the dark underbelly of an industry often glamorised but rarely understood.”

Statement by the author

Jupinderjit Singh said, “I was really impressed with the kind of work Matchbox Shots is producing, and I am thrilled that they have taken the rights to the book to develop it further.”

Aftermath of the murder

Last year, International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) issued a Red Corner Notice (RCN) against gangster Satinderjeet Singh alias Goldy Brar, who claimed responsibility for the recent murder of the Punjabi singer.

A senior CBI official said that after the issuance of RCN, the process to enable his extradition to India will begin.

“The RCN has been issued. The CBI liaison officer will coordinate with Interpol and a proposal will be moved through the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for extradition,” he said.

Goldy Brar, the main accused in the conspiracy to murder singer-politician Sidhu Moose Wala, was detained by authorities in California last year. The noted gangster, whose real name is Satinder Singh, is a close associate of Lawrence Bishnoi and operates from there through a module in Punjab.
