Google renames Bard as Gemini, new paid version launched based on more powerful AI model

Google has announced a significant update to its AI-powered chatbot, formerly known as Bard, now rebranded as Gemini. With this rebranding comes a new subscription service, Gemini Advanced, offering enhanced reasoning capabilities powered by the Gemini artificial intelligence.

Priced at $19.99 per month for US consumers, subscribers gain access to the more powerful Ultra 1.0 AI model, along with two terabytes of cloud storage, a value-added feature previously priced at $9.99 per month.

Additionally, subscribers will soon enjoy the integration of Gemini into Gmail and Google’s productivity suite.

This move puts Google in direct competition with Microsoft and its partner OpenAI in the burgeoning market for AI subscription services.

Microsoft’s recent announcement of a similar subscription offering for AI in its programs, priced at $20 per month in the US, further underscores the growing competition in this space.

According to Product Lead Jack Krawczyk, Google’s subscription service aims to provide users with the most capable generative AI technology, capable of creating new content on demand and handling queries without readily available answers online.

The integration of Gemini into Google’s suite of services, including cloud storage and Gmail, is designed to align with how people work, offering a comprehensive solution for AI-driven tasks.

Gemini will be seamlessly integrated into Android devices, allowing users to access it through various methods, such as voice activation or the app interface. Krawczyk emphasizes the ease of access for Android users, positioning Gemini as a convenient digital assistant for everyday tasks.

The rollout of Gemini Advanced will begin in the US, with plans to expand internationally, offering additional language support and a two-month subscription trial for users.

With the rebranding of Bard to Gemini, Google signals its evolution in AI technology and its commitment to providing advanced AI solutions to its user base.
