IMD Weather Update: Light Rain And Hailstorm Predicted In Pune In Next 24 Hours

Pune: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather update for the residents of Pune. The weather department of the country has said that Pune will receive light rains accompanied by hailstorms and thunderstorms in the next 24 hours.

The IMD has predicted that hailstorms with gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are likely to hit isolated pockets of Vidarbha, Maharashtra and Marathwada in the next 24 hours.

On Thursday, Pune and nearby areas were subjected to considerable rain. The continuous rain resulted in trees collapsing at 21 locations, causing vehicular damage and traffic disturbances in many areas. Lohegaon, Koregaon Park, Shivajinagar, Sinhagad Road, Sahakarnagar, Parvati, and Kothrud received the most rainfall in the region on Thursday.

IMD Predicts Light To Moderate Rain In Himachal

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), meanwhile, predicted light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds at a few places over Assam on May 5. In its special bulletin, the Indian Meteorological Department issued a warning for rainfall activity and strong winds accompanied by thunderstorms across the state between May 6 and May 7.

“Thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds with speed reaching up to 50–60 Kmph is
very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam on May 5. Heavy to very heavy rain is very
likely to occur at isolated places over Assam on May 6 and May 7,” the Met office said.
“Light to moderate rain is likely to occur in most places across the state between May 6 and May 9,” the IMD further said.

Earlier on May 2, heavy rainfall in the hill district of Dima Hasao caused flooding and landslides across Assam.

Several areas of the district, including Haflong Town, were flooded due to heavy rainfall. Railway service was also disrupted due to landslides between Jatinga-Lampur and New Harangajao.
CPRO of Northeast Frontier Railway Sabyasachi De said that in some parts, water and mud overflowed on the railway track.

The Haflong Lake has been overflowing due to continuous rain, causing damage to nearby houses and the road. The District Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority requested the Chief Executive Officer of Haflong Municipal Board to clear the drain and release the lake water directly into the drains and asked the Chief Executive Officer of Haflong Municipal Board to submit an action report within 3 days.
