The Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction for the 2024 season will be held in Dubai on 19 December, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Sunday. It will be the first time the auction will be held overseas.

As per reports, 1,166 players have registered for the mini-auction. 830 of these 1,166 players are Indian with the number of overseas players standing at 336. There are 212 capped, 909 uncapped and 45 Associate players in this list.

77 slots will be filled during the mini-auction, 30 of them being overseas players. The franchises have a collective Rs 262.95 crore to spend to improve their squads.

The Indian capped list includes 18 players and only four of them — Harshal Patel, Kedar Jadhav, Shardul Thakur, and Umesh Yadav — have opted for a maximum base price of Rs 2 crore. The remaining 14 players, Varun Aaron, KS Bharat, Siddarth Kaul, Dhawal Kulkarni, Shivam Mavi, Shahbaz Nadeem, Karun Nair, Manish Pandey, Chetan Sakariya, Mandeep Singh, Barinder Sran, Jaydev Unadkat, Hanuma Vihari and Sandeep Warrier have opted for the base price of Rs 50 lakh.

World Cup-winning Australian players Travis Head, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc will reportedly be part of the auction. All three have set their base price at Rs 2 crore. One to watch out for will be New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra who will be available for a base price of Rs 50 lakh.

IPL teams announced their player retention and releases by deadline of 26 November. However, teams can still trade players until 12 December, a week before the mini-auction.

IPL 2024 doesn’t have a date yet. At a meeting between BCCI and IPL Governing Council, it was decided to keep the scheduling decision after Election Commission of India (ECI) declares the polling schedule for Lok Sabha elections next year.
