Junaid Khan’s Debut Maharaj Sparks Controversy, ‘Boycott Netflix’ Trends on X

Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan is all set to make his debut with “Maharaj.” The movie is scheduled to hit the OTT giant Netflix on June 14. However, ahead of the release, a massive controversy erupted when the Bajrang Dal threatened to stall the film’s release. Once again, people are expressing their anger towards the film through social media posts. A section of social media users took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to protest against the film and call for its ban.

What Was the Maharaj Controversy About?

The film has sparked controversy, with Hindu groups and many on social media calling for a ban on its release, alleging that it portrays religious leaders and sadhus in a negative light. Additionally, actor Aamir Khan is facing significant trolling on social media.

One user took to X and wrote, “O Hindu, wake up… A father (Aamir Khan) makes fun of Lord Shiva by releasing the movie ‘PK’ & his son defames the Hindu religion and cultural tradition by releasing the movie ‘Maharaj’! This movie must be boycotted. #BoycottNetflix Ban Maharaj Film.”

Another user, demanding a ban on the film, said, “Junaid Khan, Yash Raj Films, and #Netflix will all be held responsible if this film tries to hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus by showing that sadhus and saints are miscreants and lustful, thereby disrupting law and order. #BoycottNetflix Ban Maharaj Film.”

“Place an immediate ban on ‘Maharaj’ movie releasing on Netflix! Will those Hindu haters who make films insulting Hindu saints also make films on other religions? #BoycottNetflix,” a third user wrote on the social media platform.

Earlier this week, the youth wing of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, represented by the Bajrang Dal, voiced objections to the movie and threatened to halt its release. A spokesperson stated that to ensure there are no inappropriate scenes in the film, they have requested to view it before its release.
