BJP will come back to power in Karnataka with thumping majority: PM Modi in Tumakuru poll rally

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday predicted a thumping victory for the BJP in Karnataka, saying the crowd that turned out at an unplanned roadshow and at a public meeting here was proof of the party coming out on top.

The Prime Minister held a massive roadshow in the city before heading to the venue of the public meeting to canvass for the ruling party.

At an election rally here, Modi made a point to chant 'Bajrang Bali Ki Jai' (Hail Hanuman) and quoted a line from noted Kannada poet Kuvempu's poem hailing Lord Hanuman.

"BJP is coming (to power) with a thumping majority. There was no pre planned programme but a mega roadshow happened due to the overwhelming crowd," he said.

Cong nurtured & gave shelter to terror for the sake of vote bank politics: PM in Karnataka

In a new attack on the Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that the party has fostered, protected, and capitulated to terror in the name of vote-bank politics.

He said that the film "The Kerala Story" is based on the deceptive strategies and schemes of terrorists in just one state and accused the Congress of engaging in covert political negotiations with those who support terrorism.

"Law and order are crucial if we want to make Karnataka the best state in the nation. Equally crucial is that terror never return to Karnataka. The BJP has always taken a hard line against terrorism. However, once Congress takes action against terrorism, they would feel sick to their stomach, Modi warned.

No question of banning Bajrang Dal if it plays by rule-book: Congress leader Veerappa Moily

Senior Congressman M. Veerappa Moily stated on Friday that outlawing the Bajrang Dal is not a possibility if it follows the law and conducts properly, despite the BJP's continued criticism of his party's manifesto's call to do so.

Speaking to PTI, Moily stated that the reference should not be interpreted as the Congress threatening to outlaw the Bajrang Dal if it wins the Karnataka Assembly elections on 10 May; rather, it should be seen as the Congress issuing some sort of notice and warning to the party.

On this issue, the former Chief Minister indicated that the Congress would adopt the approach of the then Home Minister Vallabhbhai Patel who, he said, lifted the ban on RSS after receiving an undertaking from the organisation that it would not indulge in "illegal activities".

The Congress in its manifesto for the Assembly polls released earlier this week said it was committed to take firm and decisive action against individuals and organisations spreading hatred amongst communities on grounds of caste and religion.

Veteran Deshpande eyes winning streak for record 9th time

Veteran Congressman RV Deshpande stated this may be his final election and underlined he is not a man who will battle for the position of Chief Minister. Deshpande is hoping to win the assembly election in Karnataka for the ninth time, which would set a record.

Initially, Deshpande wasn't a member of Congress. In 1999, he left the Janata Parivar for the Congress. Up to that point, he was chosen by the Janata Parivar in four elections to the legislature.

In an interview to PTI, Deshpande said: "Kharge and I have won assembly elections eight times. If I win this time, it will be a record in the House. Nobody has won nine times."
