Laapataa Ladies becomes India’s official entry to Oscars 2025

Laapataa Women, directed by Kiran Rao has been submitted as India’s official entry to Oscars 2025 by the Film Federation of India. The film features Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava and Chhaya Kadam. Laapataa Women was once competing against titles like Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, Kartik Aaryan’s Chandu Champion, Prabhas’s Kalki 2898 AD, the National Award-winning Malayalam film Aatam, Rajkummar Rao’s Shrikanth, and Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur, among others.

The story of Laapataa Women revolves around two young newly-wed brides who get exchanged at some stage in a train ride to their husbands’ homes. It’s a heartwarming tale centered around the common man, infused with issues of morality, simplicity, and enduring values.

Laapataa Women, released on March 1, 2024, produced by Kirao Rao and Aamir Khan, tells us how women folk are only lost on the planet of men — made for his or her desires. It sustains a critique of the veil as a representation of oppression. With the slow start at the box place of job, the film showed growth within the collections resulting from positive word of mouth. The film has a gross of Rs 24.1 crore in India and a worldwide gross of Rs 25.26 crore.

After the film was once released on OTT giant Netflix, it achieved a giant milestone with 13.eight million views, surpassing Animal, which was once released on the same platform.
