Mahadev app scam: After Ranbir Kapoor, Kapil Sharma & more Bollywood actors summoned by ED

Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor was summoned by Enforcement Directorate in the Mahadev Gaming App case. He has been asked to record his statement on October 10. He’s not the only actor under the radar, many celebrities are under the scanner for participating in the wedding of Sourabh Chandrakar, the co-promoter of the online betting app, in Dubai.

Three more celebrities have now been summoned in the same case- Kapil Sharma, Huma Qureshi, Hina Khan. The three haven’t been accused but have been summoned by ED to record their statements at the agency’s Raipur office on different dates.

What is the Mahadev app case?

It’s an app that provides platform to users for illegal betting games like poker, card games, chance games, and sports like cricket, tennis and football. ‘Panel Owners’ is the term that has been given to the people that operate the app and are available on instant messaging platforms. A report by NDTV states they earn a profit of around Rs 200 crore a day.

The central investigating agencies have carried out searches in cities like Mumbai, Bhopal, Kolkata in regards to the money laundering network which is connected to this app headquartered in the UAE.

Statement by ED Sources

Chandrakar and MOB platform’s other promoter Ravi Uppal have created an empire for themselves in the UAE. The sudden and illegal riches are being openly flaunted by them.

The sources added, “Private jets were hired to ferry family members from Nagpur to UAE. Celebrities were hired to perform in the marriage and wedding planners, dancers, decorators, etc, were hired from Mumbai and hawala channels were used to make the payments in cash.” The reports also say these transactions were dubious and the unnamed celebrities were paid around Rs 40 crore.
