A prominent movie actress, known for her work in both the Hindi and Bengali film industries, Moushumi Chatterjee is one of those celebrities who got married at a very early age and instead started her family before her career. Chatterjee got married at the age of 15, became a mother at 17, and even after that, she continued working in films like any other star. She went down to become one of the leading actresses of her time. However, not many know the reason behind the actress choosing to get married at such a young age. It was due to some personal reasons that the actress took the call.

Moushumi Chatterjee made her acting debut at the age of 10 with the 1967 Bengali film Balika Badhu, which dealt with the issue of child marriage. However, a few years after that, a young Moushumi got married. It was only after her marriage that her film career took a major leap.

Moushumi Chatterjee got married at 15 and still ruled the industry 

Moushumi Chatterjee was in Class 10 when one of her close aunts got really ill due to cancer and her last wish was to see her married.

Hence, to satisfy her wish, Moushumi got married to Jayant Mukherjee, the son of legendary music director Hemant Kumar. In an interview with Lehren, the veteran actress said, “My father was very close to his elder sister and she was in the last stage of cancer. Her last wish was to see me getting married. So, my father-in-law suggested that the wedding should happen. I even skipped my exams. I also got a film around the same time. Everything was just falling into place.”

She further opened up on how she became a mother at the age of 17. Adding that she also got her own Mercedes, the actress noted that she did not understand the meaning of success at that time and was just happy seeing her face on the big screen.

With the support of her husband and her father-in-law, Moshumi pursued her career in films with several big projects like Anuraag, Humshakal, Roti Kapada Aur Makaan, Ghayal, Prem Bandhan, and many others. At the same time, she also worked in a few Bengali films.

She also shared deets from her journey as an actress. Opening up about how she once scolded actor Sunny Deol, she shared how the actor once came late on the sets and was talking over the phone. It was then that she scolded Sunny, asking him to not ruin his father’s reputation. The Gadar 2 actor went clearly numb and also apologised to her.
