Microsoft Comes For Google With Big New Update

During its annual flagship Microsoft Build event,  (MSFT) - Get Free Report rolled out a host of new AI-oriented updates. Although many of the updates are targeted toward developers, the tech giant also unveiled two brand-new software launches that will factor into the consumer world.

Beyond embracing plugins, Microsoft is now integrating Bing search into ChatGPT, a move that adds a significant amount of power to the generative AI model. 

The new search integration is available to ChatGPT plus subscribers starting May 23; it will roll out to free users soon through the use of a simple plugin. 

"ChatGPT will now have a world-class search engine built-in to provide timelier and more up-to-date answers with access from the web," Microsoft said. "Now, ChatGPT answers can be grounded by search and web data and include citations so you can learn more—all directly from within chat."

The tech behemoth that was co-founded by Bill Gates also announced the launch of Windows Copilot in a move that will bring the "power of AI to Windows 11." 

This integration crosses all Windows apps and will serve as a kind of virtual AI-enabled assistant. 

"Just like you would with Bing Chat, you can ask Windows Copilot a range of questions from simple to complex," Microsoft said. "For example, you can not only copy and paste, but also ask Windows Copilot to rewrite, summarize or explain your content."

Beyond helping in Microsoft Word, Copilot will allow users to instantly organize and optimize their computer's layout and settings. 

The announcements come just weeks after Google announced that it is bringing generative AI into play across its suite of apps.
