My motto has been to better myself every day rather than seek excellence, says Virat Kohli
Not long ago, veteran India batter Virat Kohli was battling for consistency. Just a couple of years back, Kohli had endured failures with the bat, but time and again, he kept reminding the selectors, experts and his fans that he was hardly past his prime.

In the ongoing 2023 World Cup, Kohli, with 354 runs from five matches at an average of 118, is India’s top run-scorer in the tournament, ahead of Rohit Sharma (311 runs), and only behind South Africa’s Quinton de Kock (407 runs) in the top run-scorers’ list.
Kohli has so far scored three fifties and a hundred in the World Cup, with his only failure with the bat so far coming against Pakistan, when he was dismissed for 16.
Kohli has been known to be someone who has been breaking records every now and then, but according to the Delhi cricketer, it’s just about getting better himself rather than achieving excellence.
“I have always worked on how I can better myself every day, every practice session, every year and every season. So, that is what has helped me play for this long and perform,” Kohli said on Star Sports.
