Pakistan: Supreme Court grants bail to PTI chief Imran Khan in state secret leak case
In a case involving an alleged leak of state secrets, Pakistan’s Supreme Court granted bail to former prime minister Imran Khan and one of his aides on Friday, according to his attorney.
Salman Safdar, one of Khan’s attorneys, stated that it was not immediately obvious if Khan would be released from custody because he had other arrest warrants issued against him in various other instances.
Imran Khan, a former cricket star, was found guilty of corruption in a different case and has been incarcerated since August.
He entered a not guilty plea to the charge of disclosing state secrets. Khan is suspected of leaking a confidential cable that Pakistan’s ambassador in Washington forwarded to Islamabad last year, which is the subject of the charges.
