Peleton Exercise Bike Customers Have a New Recall Concern

Peloton  (PTON) - Get Free Report is recalling more than 2 million of its Peloton original bikes sold from January 2018 to May 2023 in the U.S. The exercise equipment company said that the bike's seat post can break "unexpectedly during use," which could cause injury to the user.

Peloton said that, as of April 30, it had received 35 reports of the seat post breaking. Several of the reports cited injuries including a fractured wrist, lacerations and bruises, according to the CPSC

"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled exercise bikes and contact Peloton for a free repair," the CSPC said.

The company is sending out a free, upgraded seat post to all U.S. owners of its original Bike -- identifiable by its PL-01 model number on the label -- which can be installed by the customer without the need for a service call.

In the wake of the recall, Peloton shares were down more than 6%.

The company agreed to pay a $19 million settlement in January for not immediately recalling a treadmill that was linked to more than 150 reports of injuries, including the death of a six-year-old child.

"Our commitment to member safety is unwavering," the company said in a press release. "For Peloton, it was important to proactively engage the CPSC to address this issue and to work swiftly and cooperatively to identify a remedy."
