Guwahati: All schools in Assam’s Kamrup Metropolitan district have been ordered to shut for four days starting Tuesday, September 24 as a consequence of prevailing extreme heat conditions.

The Kamrup Metropolitan district primarily comprises Guwahati city.

As per the MET Department, the state capital recorded a maximum temperature of 37.9 degrees Celsius on Sunday, which was 5.9 notches above the traditional. The minimum temperature was also Three.Eight notches above the traditional at 28.2 degrees Celsius.

In an official order, the District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO) on Monday, 23 September 2024 said reasonably reasonably a host incidents of ill-health and fainting of scholars have been reported as a consequence of excessive heat and dehydration from multiple schools.

“It has been decided that each person Govt/Provincialized/Private schools functioning lower than Kamrup Metro district are to remain closed from twenty fourth to Twenty seventh September 2024 as a consequence of excessive heat and rising temperature,” said the order.

The DEEO in the same way said that this decision had been taken on a strategy to safeguard the scholars from the ill effects of exposure to excessive heat.

Interestingly, a heavy spell of rain lashed the Guwahati hours after the order was issued.

Last week, school timings in Kamrup Metropolitan, Cachar, Barpeta, and a few other districts were changed because the districts reeled lower than scorching heat.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD’s) Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has predicted that Guwahati will in most cases remain cloudy with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers during the following two to three days.
