Well, parenthood is an emotion and responsibility, which every individual wants to embrace. But in today’s world, there is a rat race for achieving dreams and goals, which thus turns parenthood and parenting into the second preference, especially among the new generation.

And, Shastry Vs Shastry aka Shastry Viruddh Shastry does explore the intricacies and elements of parenthood in the most fresh manner yet in the most relevant way.

Talking about the plot, it narrates the story of an old music teacher of 70-year-old named Manohar Shastry (Paresh Rawal), who stays with his wife Urmila (Neena Kulkarni) and a 7-year-old grandson Yeman aka Momoji (Kabir Pahwa) at Panchagani.

While his son Malhar Shastry (Shiv Panditt) is still struggling to settle in life, his wife Mallika (Mimi Chakraborty) is at a great job but finds it tough to make time for son Momoji. Malhar and Mallika stay in Mumbai and come during the weekends to meet their son.

Malhar tells Manohar that he wants to take his son to Mumbai and assures him that he and Mallika will send him to the best school in the city and give him a good life. Manohar argues with him and says that instead of being dependent on his wife’s money, he should settle in life and then think about taking Momoji to Mumbai.

Malhar, who tries his best to prove to his father that he is not worthless, gets an offer from his friend Chinu (Adinath Kothare) of a start-up based on learning games in the USA. Now, Malhar tells his parents that he will take Momoji to the USA along with Mallika since there is an opportunity for him to grow and become something in life. He further challenges Manohar that he can do whatever wants to stop him from taking Momoji away from them.

Accepting the challenge, Manohar registers a case against Malhar and fights for Momoji’s legal guardianship, which leads to a high-intensity yet relevant and emotional courtroom drama. But what happens next? Who gets legal guardianship of Momoji? Well, to find that you need to watch Shastry Vs Shastry on the big screen.

Directors Nandita Roy and Shiboprasad Mukherjee have handled the sensitive and emotional subject of parenthood and parenting in the most sensible manner. Each and every situation will find relevance among the audience. The director duo makes you teary-eyed with some beautiful sequences and literally makes you feel for the characters. In fact, they perfectly managed to strike a balance between all the characters by keeping their essence and traits intact, which will leave you thinking about who is right. Manohar or Malhar?

Talking about the performances, Paresh Rawal has once again showed his versatility and made us teary-eyed as Manohar. Neena Kulkarni landed strong support as Urmila. Kabir Pahwa has spread magic on the silver screen with sheer cuteness and innocence. Shiv Panditt and Mimi Chakraborty played their parts to the T. Amruta Subhash stole the show as a lawyer and her courtroom scenes will definitely make you say that you can love her or hate her but can’t ignore her.

On the whole, Shastry Vs Shastry is an emotional ride, which will move you to the core.
