Tesla Foe Stellantis Has Huge News About Electric Vehicle Goal

The race for Tesla rivals to become all-electric is getting more competitive as legacy automakers unveil and produce new electric vehicles and retire their internal combustion engine models.

The list of automakers introducing new EVs is growing each day. First of all, Tesla  (TSLA) - Get Free Report CEO Elon Musk has said that the company will deliver its new Cybertruck before the end of the third quarter of 2023, which would be sometime between the beginning of July and end of September.

General Motors  (GM) - Get Free Report says that its new EV Silverado truck with a 400 mile range will be available for retail sales in summer 2024. Its GMC division in April unveiled its supertruck 2023 GMC Hummer EV 3X, as well as its 2024 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 and GMC Hummer EV 3X SUVs. Availability for the GMC models will be revealed at a later date.

Honda  (HMC) - Get Free Report plans to introduce two EV models in 2024, the Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX, in partnership with General Motors. It will also develop affordable EVs in the joint venture that will go on sale in 2027. Toyota Motor Corp.  (TM) - Get Free Report unveiled its bZ Sport Crossover Concept EV and its bZ FlexSpace Concept, a family-oriented electric SUV, and Volkswagen  (VWAGY) - Get Free Report just introduced its 2025 VW ID.Buzz three-row electric microbus that will be available sometime in 2024.

Stellantis Committed to Going All-Electric

Stellantis  (STLA) - Get Free Report has already committed to 100% of its European and 50% of its US vehicle sales to be battery electric vehicles, with 75 BEV models and 5 million BEV unit sales, by 2030. The company plans to be 100% electric by 2038. The EV maker has already said it is retiring its Dodge division's Charger and Challenger internal combustion engine vehicles later this year.

The Netherlands-based automaker revealed plans for its entry into the electric pickup market in April with its all-electric 2025 Ram 1500 REV, its first battery electric light-duty pickup truck that will be available in the fourth quarter of 2024. 

Stellantis division Chrysler changed directions from its first EV Airflow Concept car to a large crossover concept that did well at customer clinics earlier this year. The crossover will reportedly use the Stellantis large platform designed primarily for electric vehicles with some of Airflow's features and aesthetics.

However, the company will not use the Airflow name for the model, but also has not revealed the name of the new vehicle, which is expected to be produced in 2025. The company's Jeep division is expected to deliver its electric Avenger in the US by the end of the second quarter, and plans to launch the all-electric Recon and Wagoneer S SUVs.

Big Investment for New Electric Vehicles

The company's efforts to reach its goal of 100% all-electric vehicles were reinforced on June 1 when it said it would invest over $176 million to develop a battery assembly workshop and plastic injection molding shop in its Rennes plant in France as part of its plan to launch a new all-electric sports utility vehicle in 2025, Reuters said. The factory currently manufactures the Peugeot 5008 and Citreon C5 Aircross. 

The new vehicle, which has not been named yet, has a code name CR3 and will replace the C5 Aircross internal combustion engine and hybrid vehicles.

The CR3 vehicle will be based on the company's STLA Medium platform, Inside EVs reported, for premium vehicles from about 165 inches to 197 inches long and a charge range of up to 440 miles.
