Ukraine shows evidence Russia fired North Korea missile at Kharkiv

The prosecutor’s office for the Kharkiv area displayed the parts on Saturday, adding to the proof that Russia used missiles supplied by North Korea to strike Ukraine.

According to a top advisor to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russia launched its first missile attack on Ukraine this week using missiles provided by North Korea.

The prosecutor’s office spokeswoman, Dmytro Chubenko, stated that the missile, which was one of three that struck Kharkiv on January 2, differed from Russian versions both in appearance and functionality.

“The production method is not very modern. There are deviations from standard Iskander missiles, which we previously saw during strikes on Kharkiv. This missile is similar to one of the North Korean missiles,” Chubenko told media as he displayed the remnants.

He said the missile was slightly bigger in diameter than the Russian Iskander missile, while its nozzle, internal electrical windings, and rear parts were also different.

“That is why we are leaning towards the version that this may be a missile which was supplied by North Korea.”

Chubenko refused to identify the precise model designation of the missile.

This week, Russia launched multiple missile attacks on Kharkiv, resulting in two fatalities and over 60 injuries in one of its largest missile and drone assaults since the large-scale conflict began in February 2022.

Since it conducted its first nuclear bomb test in 2006, North Korea has been subject to an arms embargo by the UN.

Resolutions passed by the UN Security Council, backed by Russia, forbid nations from exchanging armaments or other military hardware with North Korea.
