Veteran Marathi actor Ravindra Berde of Ajay Devgn's 'Singham' fame passes away at 78 after battle with cancer

A veteran in the Marathi and Hindi film industry, actor Ravindra Berde passed away at the age of 78 after a prolonged struggle with throat cancer. The actor reportedly breathed his last at the age on Wednesday morning, 13 December 2023. Notably, he was reportedly undergoing treatment at the Tata Hospital for the last few months and was only discharged two days back.

However, it was this morning that he died after suffering from a sudden cardiac arrest at his Mumbai residence. The seasoned actor was diagnosed with throat cancer years back, however, he was hospitalised in Mumbai after his condition deteriorated and was receiving cancer treatment for several months.

While an official statement from the actor’s family is yet to be released, condolences have been pouring in from fans across social media platforms as they mourn the loss of a talent that contributed significantly to the world of entertainment.

About Ravindra Berde

Having worked predominantly in the Marathi film industry, Ravindra Berde has also worked in some prominent Bollywood films like Anil Kapoor’s Nayak: The Real Hero and Ajay Devgn’s Singham, where he essayed the role of Zamindar Chandrakant.

Berde along with his late brother, actor Laxmikant Berde has also delivered several hit movies together. However, not many know that the late actor once suffered from a heart attack in 1995 during a play. It was finally in 2011 when he was diagnosed with cancer. However, it didn’t dampen his spirits as the actor continued entertaining his fans with his performances.

Speaking about his career, Ravindra started working in theatre in 1965 and slowly transitioned into TV and films. In a career spanning over four decades, the actor worked in more than 300 Marathi films and has shared the screen with some prominent actors like Ashok Saraf, Vijay Chavan, Mahesh Kothare, Viju Khote, Sudhir Joshi and Bharat Jadhav. Some of his well-known films are Bakaal, Yeshwant, Hum Do Anjaane, Bhootachi Shala, Shripa, Shasan, and Mandali Tumchyasathi Kay Pan among others.

Berde is survived by his wife, two children, daughter-in-law, and grandkids.
