‘Virat Kohli One Of The Best Cricketers’: Ab de Villiers Hails RCB Star Amid Strike Rate Criticism

New Delhi: Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru star Ab de Villiers slammed the critics who were questioning Viat Kohli’s T20 strike rate in the ongoing season of Indian Premier League 2024. Kohli is currently the second-highest run-getter of the tournament as he scored 500 runs in his 10 IPL outings. CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad is leading the chart with 509 runs in 10 outings.

Despite consistently scoring runs there have still been questions about his strike rate considering the pace of the game but his former teammate de Villiers slammed those critics by asking how many cricket games they have played.

Talking on his Youtube channel, ABD said, “Virat Kohli, catching criticism about his strike rate. It’s been going on for way too long and I am sort of fed up with that now. I’m frustrated to say the least. This guy is one of the best players to ever play the game of cricket. He’s incredible in the IPL, he plays a certain role for RCB, and I’ve pretty much had enough of data-driven pundits who keep criticizing this man. When you don’t really have knowledge of the game. How many games of cricket have you played, how many IPL hundreds have you scored?”

The same question was asked by Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Chief selector Ajit Agarkar when they were addressing the media for the T20 World Cup 2024 squad.

Agarkar said Kohli’s strike rate was not even discussed while picking the squad .

“I don’t think we’ve been discussing it (Kohli’s strike rate). He’s been in great form, fortunately in the IPL so no concerns there at all. With regards to how it’s going in the IPL, you’re still going to a World Cup, still international cricket — there is still that gap there,’’ Agarkar said in a press conference on Thursday.

Here is India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024: Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (WK), Sanju Samson (WK), Hardik Pandya (VC), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj

Reserves: Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan
