Virat Kohli Vs Sunil Gavaskar IPL 2024 Controversy: Wasim Akram Says ‘I Think Virat Shouldn’t Have Said It’

New Delhi: Former Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram finally broke his silence in the ongoing heated conversation between Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli stating the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) should have refrained himself from making any comments on public that would create a controversy. The whole thing started when Gavaskar spoke about Kohli’s strike rate during one of RCB’s matches in the ongoing IPL 2024, while commentating.

Gavaskar’s remarks didn’t go well with Kohli who hit back after his match-winning innings of 44-ball 70 not out against Gujarat Titans stating he isn’t bothered by ‘outside noise’. To this Gavaskar didn’t mince any words before lashing out against Kohli and the broadcasters during a live show.

Akram chose to take Gavaskar’s side. “Both are greats. Sunny bhai, as a cricketer, as a human being, I know him off the field. As a commentator, he has been doing it for God knows how many years, probably for more than two and a half years,” Akram told Sportskeeda.

“And coming to the great man, Virat Kohli, he is a top player, a modern great. In fact, he is an all-time great in history, given the kind of performances he has had. But “I think Virat shouldn’t have said it,” added the legendary pacer, who is currently serving as a mentor to Sri Lanka.

A job of a commentator requires the individual to be completely unbiased. Whatever they see on the field, speak the same. Akram believes the issue between the two would have no impact on their relation. “It is the commentators’ job. If he got slow in a couple of matches and he [Gavaskar] said something, forget about it. Virat is not that kind of a person. Both are proud Indians; both are greats.

“It’s OK; they both will move in pretty quickly. Don’t think either will take it personally. They will be fine, I know. I am telling you now. I know them both very well,” Akram added.
