5 km in 24 hours: MASSIVE traffic jam on Delhi-Kolkata Highway, vehicles stuck for 4 days, jam stretches to Aurangabad

The Delhi-Kolkata Highway (NH-19) is stuck in a massive traffic jam that now stretches nearly 65 kilometres. Hundreds of vehicles have been stranded for almost four days, lined up bumper to bumper with no sign of movement. The problem began after heavy rain in Bihar’s Rohtas district last Friday flooded the diversions and service lanes built for the ongoing six-lane construction work on the highway. The downpour has also created large potholes and deep waterlogging, making it hard for vehicles to move safely. Many vehicles are slipping on the wet surface, making the situation worse by the hour.

According to an NDTV report, it now takes several hours to travel even a few kilometres. The traffic jam has grown so large that it has reached Aurangabad, around 65 kilometres from Rohtas, with no clear sign of when normal movement will resume. The situation is so dire that vehicles are able to cover only five kilometres in 24 hours.

The NDTV report quoted two truck drivers who said they were worried about running out of food, as they only had limited supplies left. They added that if the traffic jam continues for more hours or days, it will affect their work and earnings.

Pedestrians, ambulances, emergency vehicles, and tourists are also struggling to move through the long traffic jam, which has caused major inconvenience and delays for everyone on the highway.
