Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal was on Tuesday alloted a government bungalow. Kejriwal has been assigned a Type VII bungalow at 95, Lodhi Estate, which he will now occupy. Deccision came after, the Delhi High Court heard the matter regarding Kejriwal’s allocation of a government bungalow in Delhi. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the central government, assured the court that Kejriwal would be allotted a government bungalow within the next 10 days, as per the rules.

Type-VII bungalows typically include four bedrooms, large lawns, a garage, and three servant quarters and space for office. Approximately 5,000 square feet in size, Kejriwal’s new house has two side lawn and office.

Kejriwal will now have Congress’s Shashi Tharoor as his neighbour, who has bungalow 97 to him. Bungalows 94 and 96 are allocated to Army officials.

Court direction to Centre

At the last hearing, the Delhi High Court directed the central government to ensure transparency in the bungalow allotment process and to implement a clear system. The court also ordered that the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Director of the Directorate of Estates be present via video conferencing at the next hearing.

What happens to Sheeshmahal?

Meanwhile, the Delhi government plans to turn Kejriwal’s old official residence at 6, Flagstaff Road, which underwent renovation during his time as Chief Minister and later faced corruption allegations, into a state guest house with a cafeteria.
