Who is Aaron Rodgers?

Aaron Charles Rodgers was born in Chico, California, on December 2, 1983. He played quarterback for Pleasant Valley High School, where he set several records, including most touchdowns and most passing yards in a single game. Rodgers finished with a 10–1 record in his 2002 freshman year and led the Roadrunners football team to a NorCal Conference championship and a No. 2 national ranking.

At this point, Rodgers caught the attention of a recruiter for the University of California, Berkeley, where he transferred for the 2003 season. He started as quarterback for the Golden Bears in the fifth game of the season, and in 2004, he led the team to a 10–2 record, with 2,566 passing yards and a 66% completion rate. They lost to Texas Tech University in the Holiday Bowl during the postseason.

Rodgers forewent his senior year to enter the 2005 NFL Draft, and he was selected by the Green Bay Packers as the 24th overall pick in the first round.

Aaron Rodgers’ NFL career

The Packers already had a starting quarterback, Brett Favre, who led Green Bay to the Super Bowl championship in 1997. Rodgers would serve as the backup quarterback and would not be the permanent starter until 2008, following Favre’s retirement.

In two years, Rodgers led the Packers to a Super Bowl win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, after which he was named Super Bowl MVP. Rodgers and Green Bay would be chasing another chance at the Super Bowl until he left for the New York Jets in 2023. Over 18 seasons with the Packers, Rodgers had a total of 59,055 passing yards and a 65% completion rate.

At 40 years old, Rodgers signed a three-year contract valued at $112.5 million with the Jets.

In the Jets’ first game of the 2023 season, Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon, causing him to miss the entire season. His return in 2024 proved to be disastrous, and he compiled a 5–12 record. The Jets released Rodgers in the 2025 off-season, and he was then picked up by the Pittsburgh Steelers, which previously had its own rotation of starting quarterbacks over several years. Halfway through the 2025 season, the Steelers are first in the AFC North division with a 5–4 record.

As of late 2025, in his 21-year career, Rodgers is among the league’s leading players, with 64,805 passing yards, a 65.2% completion rate, 521 touchdown passes, and a 102.5 passer rating.
