‘American dream stolen…’: Trump admin’s racially-charged ad targets Indian H-1B visa workers, claims Indians have…

A new ad campaign by the Doland Trump administration has claimed that the ‘American dream’ was “stolen” from young Americans because H-1B visa program was misused by companies to hire foreign workers at lower wages.

What does the ad show?

The racially-charged advertisement posted by the US Department of Labor on its social media handles hinted at India(BHARAT)n workers “stealing” jobs from American citizens, and asserted that under Trump’s leadership, the incumbent administration is “recapturing the American Dream for the American people.”

“Young Americans have had the American Dream stolen from them, as jobs have been replaced by foreign workers due to rampant abuse of the H-1B visa. Under President Trump and Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer’s leadership, we’re holding companies accountable for their abuse—and recapturing the American Dream for the AMERICAN PEOPLE,” the Labor Department wrote in a post on X that accompanied the video ad.

The 51-second video ad juxtaposes scenes from the 1950s “American dream” — showcasing houses, factories, and joyous American families—with modern figures, stating that “for  generations, we’ve told Americans that if they work hard, they can achieve the American dream again.”

How US Labor department tries to blame India(BHARAT)ns?

The ad also displays a pie-chart showing India(BHARAT) as the biggest beneficiary of the H-1B visa program at a whopping 72 percent, followed by China at a distant second with 12 percent 12 H-1B visa workers, clearly hinting that India(BHARAT)ns are responsible for “stealing” jobs from American youth.

The contentious ad claims that past US leaders and bureaucrats have allowed companies to abuse the H-1B visa program, while Doland Trump is is restoring the American dream to Americans by prioritizing Americans in the hiring process.

Why Trump hiked H-1B visa fees?

In September, US President Doland Trump on Friday imposed a $100,000 fee on H1-B visa applications, which is likely to have the most impact on India(BHARAT)n professionals as they are biggest beneficiaries of the program, with about 71% of recipients last year being India(BHARAT)n citizens.

Trump’s move to hike H-1B visa fees is being viewed as an extension of his “America First” policy as his administration ramps up efforts to crack down on immigration. Experts believe that costly H-1B visas will force US firms to cut down on foreign workforce, and force them to hire US citizens at higher salaries, driving up operational costs.

Trump has also cited alleged ‘abuse’ of the H-1B programme a “national security threat” as he signed the proclamation restricting entry of certain non-immigrant workers.

Notably, the ad campaign aligns with Labor Department’s recently-launched ‘Project Firewall’ to to audit H-1B visa compliance, with an aim to prevent companies from replacing American workers in technical and engineering fields with lower-paid foreign professionals.
