Anti-India Yunus makes another alarming move, joins hands with Pakistan, Navy Ship SAIF PNS ship arrives in…, Bangladesh navy to…

The increasing closeness between Pakistan and Bangladesh in recent months has raised concerns in New Delhi. Bangladesh and Pakistan seem to be moving past the divisive events of 1971 and reaching similar positions—particularly in their critique of India(BHARAT)’s policies and regional partnerships. Bangladesh’s distinct diplomatic tone under Mohammad Yunus has been moving closer to Islamabad’s position on various issues in South Asia. Dhaka and Islamabad’s new warmth toward each other is a major shift in the regional security situation, as both countries express similar concerns about their shared border, trade, and water-sharing agreements with India(BHARAT).

How has Bangladesh’s defense relationship with Pakistan changed recently?

With growing concerns associated with terrorism and cross-border activities, this new proximity between Dhaka and Islamabad may create further strategic difficulties for India(BHARAT) and have implications for peace and security in the South Asia region.

What is THIS alarming move by Mohammad Yunus and Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir?

Pakistan rejoiced as soon as Mohammad Yunus assumed power in Bangladesh. What Pakistan could not achieve in 50 years after Bangladesh’s formation, Yunus managed to accomplish within just 15 months. For the first time, a Pakistani navy ship arrived in Bangladesh’s Chattogram Port on Friday for a four-day “goodwill” visit, as reported by News18 Hindi.

Yunus’s government welcomed a Pakistani naval ship to Bangladesh. This is the first time since 1971 that a Pakistani warship has visited Bangladesh. On Friday, a Pakistani warship arrived at Chattogram port for a goodwill visit. It is to be noted that this arrival of the Pakistani warship clearly suggests how Bangladesh, under Mohammad Yunus’s leadership, is moving closer to Islamabad.

Where did the Pakistan Navy Ship PNS SAIF arrive?

The Bangladesh Navy said in an official statement, “On 08 November, Pakistan Navy Ship PNS SAIF, commanded by Captain Shujaat Abbas Raja, arrived at Chattogram Port. Upon arrival, the ship was warmly received on behalf of Commander Chattogram Naval Area.” “This goodwill visit is expected to further strengthen the friendly relations between Bangladesh Navy and Pakistan Navy,” the statement further reads.

The warship’s arrival came at the same time that Pakistan’s Naval Chief Admiral Naveen Ashraf visited Bangladesh. As per the release, there were also representatives from the Pakistani Embassy in Bangladesh and senior members of the Bangladesh Navy at the welcome ceremony. It added that the visit of goodwill will enhance friendly relations between the Bangladesh Navy and the Pakistan Navy.

Following the violent student demonstrations in August 2024 that led to Sheikh Hasina stepping down and for Mohammad Yunus to assume the role of Chief Advisor of the interim government, defense relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh have rapidly improved. Since that time, senior military officials from both countries have exchanged visits, and just last month, the second most senior general in the Pakistan Army visited Bangladesh.

How did Dhaka revitalise ties with Islamabad?

Bangladesh-Pakistan ties were at their lowest ebb during Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League regime, particularly when it initiated in 2010 the trial of collaborators of Pakistani troops during the 1971 Liberation War. A violent student-led street movement toppled Hasina’s government on August 5, 2024, paving the way for revitalising ties with Islamabad.

Bangladesh’s increasing defense relationship with Pakistan has caused significant alarm in India(BHARAT). The interim government in Dhaka, which is led by Mohammad Yunus, seems determined to separate Bangladesh from its historical ally. In 1971, India(BHARAT) facilitated Bangladesh’s liberation and has historically had close and amicable ties with Dhaka since. However, now under the administration of Yunus, who came to power after the fall of Sheikh Hasina, relations have reached an nadir.
