Apple Is Making a Very Helpful Update to Its AirPods

Apple  (AAPL) - Get Free Report announced quite a lot at its WWDC 2023 conference. But one thing it did not announce was a new AirPod model. Nevertheless, the company has big plans for the product.

AirPods will be getting a number of new features this fall that will come with the latest operating software updates of iOS 17, iPadOS 17 and TVOS 17.

One of the features will be an adaptive audio mode. When you activate this feature, your AirPods will cancel out unwanted loud outside noise with anti-sound. But it will filter in sound you need to hear, such as an approaching car or an ambulance siren.

Additionally, if you start talking to someone while listening to music or a podcast, your audio is automatically lowered and your AirPods enter transparency mode while you chat. After you stop talking, the volume of your audio returns to its previous level. So turning off the latest episode of "My Favorite Murder" when its time to pay for your coffee just got easier. If this sounds familiar, it's because this is very similar to Sony  (SNEJF)  headphones’ Speak-to-Chat feature.

Apple has also boosted noise reduction during calls and the AirPods' auto-switching feature, making it easier to smoothly switch over your audio to whatever Apple device you're using at the moment, and then seamlessly switching it over to listen to on AirPods.

The exact date these upgrades will be available, as well as which AirPods will be able to use these features is unclear, as some older models like the original AirPods Pro might not be able to use the new features.
