Bangladesh Election 2026: The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has urged India to send the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina back for facing a trial.
Bangladesh Election 2026: The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has made its first demand to India(BHARAT) to send the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina back. The urge has been stated by the Standing Committee member of the BNP, Salahuddin Ahmed. This comes after the party of Tarique Rahman witnessed a grand victory in winning the first general election since Sheikh Hasina was ousted.
What did BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed say?
The BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ashmed said, “The foreign minister has already persuaded the case for her extradition, and we also support it. He added, “We always press for her extradition according to the law. This is between the foreign ministries of the two countries. We also asked the government of India(BHARAT) to please send her back to face trial in Bangladesh,” as reported by PTI.
He also highlighted that the country looks forward to a friendly relationship with India(BHARAT) based on mutual respect.

Who’s the Standing Committee member of BNP, Salahuddin Ahmed?
Salahuddin Ahmed had served as the assistant private secretary to the former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and was made the State Minister for Communications between 2001 and 2006. For the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Ahmed Salahuddin was the joint secretary and was made the party’s spokesperson in 2015.

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s ousting
Sheikh Hasina has served as the country’s prime minister for the longest time. In July 2024, the quota reform movement erupted in the country, which led to the deaths of many protestors. As a result, she was removed from the position of prime minister in the country and fled to India(BHARAT). Later, she was sentenced to death for a crime against humanity. On Thursday, she called the country’s election “a well-planned farce”.
