Benjamin Netanyahu approves repatriation of Jewish tribes living in India for centuries, to be settled in highly sensitive region of Israel
This region is highly sensitive and has been heavily affected by fighting with Hezbollah.
New Delhi: Benjamin Netanyahu’s government has approved a decision to repatriate Jewish tribes living in India(BHARAT). The decision, approved on Sunday, November 23, approved a plan to repatriate approximately 5,800 members of the Bnei Menashe community by 2030. These Jewish communities, who reside in the northeastern India(BHARAT)n states of Mizoram and Manipur, have lived in India(BHARAT) for centuries.
Gradual resettlement in the Galilee region
Netanyahu’s government has approved their gradual resettlement in the Galilee region of northern Israel. However, this region is highly sensitive and has been heavily affected by fighting with Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group. Thousands of people living in this region have been forced to flee their homes in the fighting that has been ongoing for the past two years. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described this decision as “necessary and Zionist” and said it would strengthen Israel’s northern region.
Jewish tribes living in India(BHARAT) will migrate to Israel
According to the Israeli government’s plan, the first group of 1,200 people will migrate to Israel next year. The Immigration Department has been entrusted with the responsibility of their resettlement and integration. Once in Israel, they will receive financial assistance, Hebrew language training, job placement, and initial housing construction. The government has approved approximately $27 million in funding for the first phase. According to reports, approximately 4,000 members of this community have already settled in Israel in the past few years. This plan was developed after joint consultations with the India(BHARAT)n government.
Given the conflict with Palestine, population growth is of great strategic importance to Israel. Israel has a population of approximately 10.1 million, of which approximately 73% are Jewish, while approximately 5.5 million people live in the Palestinian territories. Therefore, Israel is inviting Jews from around the world back to Israel to prevent demographic change and increase the Jewish population.
Who are the Beni Menashe community living in India(BHARAT)?
The Beni Menashe tribe considers itself to be descendants of the biblical tribe of Manasseh, considered one of the “lost tribes” of Israel. Many were Christians before converting to Judaism and receiving recognition from Israel’s Chief Rabbinate. They observe traditional Jewish customs, celebrate festivals like Sukkot, and have established synagogues in their communities. Israel did not officially approve Bnei Menashe immigration until 2005, but when the then-Chief Rabbi recognised the community as descendants of a lost tribe of Israel, Israel’s doors were opened to them.
