Bhuwan Arora reveals how he prepared mentally and physically to bring Hemant Kumar to life in ‘Janaawar’

Bhuwan Arora, who captured audiences’ attention with his stellar performance in Farzi, is all set to enthral viewers once again with his latest thriller, Janaawar: The Beast Within, premiering on G5 Global on September 26. In a candid chat with India(BHARAT).com, the actor revealed the rigorous mental and physical preparation he undertook to bring his character, Hemant Kumar, to life.

How did he prepare mentally for Hemant Kumar?

Explaining the process, Bhuwan shared, “Playing Hemant was not just about portraying a cop solving a series of murders—it was about understanding his inner world. I had to mentally channel his upbringing, the pride of being the first from his small community in Chhattisgarh to become a police officer, and how he faces internal dilemmas while questioning belief systems and confronting personal demons. It required me to mentally prepare and stay immersed in his journey throughout the shoot.”

What physical training did he undergo?

The actor didn’t stop at mental preparation. He emphasised that Hemant’s role demanded both authenticity and agility. “I trained physically to ensure I could handle the action sequences realistically. Being fit was essential, but more than that, I had to internalise how a real officer moves, handles weapons, and interacts with colleagues in high-pressure scenarios. Every detail mattered, from body language to stamina, so the character felt real on screen,” Bhuwan explained.

Learning the local language for authenticity

Adding another layer of realism, Bhuwan also learned local dialects to connect with the setting and the people of Chhattisgarh. “I wanted to ensure that Hemant Kumar felt rooted in his environment. We shot in remote locations, interacted with locals, and even tried their dishes to understand their lifestyle. It helped me internalise the culture and language, making the character more genuine,” he said.

On the overall experience and co-stars

Bhuwan described the shoot as a “family-like experience,” given the remote locations and close-knit team. “We relied on each other completely. Shooting in such an environment built strong bonds, and it was both fun and rewarding. The director, Sachin Sir, was extremely precise and hands-on. His guidance pushed me to give my best without overwhelming my energy, which was invaluable given the demanding nature of the role,” he added.

Janaawar: The Beast Within promises to be a gripping thriller exploring murder, mythology, and a cop’s personal journey, with Bhuwan’s dedication shining through every frame. Fans can stream the series exclusively on G5 Global from September 26.
