BIG tension for Pakistan as Russia blasts Pakistani daily for spreading…, what is ‘Russophobic’ Western propaganda?

Russia Blasts Pakistani Daily: Seems like Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s effort to strengthen ties with Russia involves inherent challenges as the Russian Embassy in Pakistan has slammed the Pakistani daily, The Frontier Post, over publishing a ‘series of anti-Russian articles’. The embassy accused the Peshawar-based newspaper of promoting ‘Western propaganda’ against Moscow. The Russian Embassy also highlighted that The Frontier Post has its global news service headquarters in Washington, hinting that Islamabad is publishing anti-Russian articles at the behest of the US.

PM Shehbaz Sharif Called For Strengthening Islamabad’s Ties With Russia

This has come at a time when Pakistan is trying to strengthen its bilateral ties with Russia. On September 2, PM Sharif met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing and stated that Pakistan respects Moscow’s relations with India(BHARAT) and wants similar ties. The two leaders held the meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

What Did Russian Embassy Say?

Issuing a statement on Thursday, the Russian Embassy stated that the new outlet’s international news section was influenced by an Americanised editorial team which is allegedly based in Washington. “Invariably gives preference to ardent Russophobes and critics of Russian foreign policy,” the statement read.

The embassy highlighted that even a single article in the publication that spoke about Russia or its leadership in a neutral or favourable manner.

“Recently, it has been impossible to find a single article in the international section of the newspaper that portrays Russia or its leadership in a positive or even neutral light,” the statement read.

“This barrage of anti-Russian articles containing standard Western propaganda and lacking any alternative viewpoint makes one wonder whether the editorial board’s policy is based on political bias rather than freedom of speech, ” the statement added.

Why Russian Embassy Accused The Frontier Post Of Ignoring Moscow Format Of Consultations On Afghanistan?

The Embassy further accused The Frontier Post of “completely ignored” the Moscow Format of Consultations on Afghanistan held on October 7. The event was widely covered by other regional media. Notably, The Frontier Post has an entire section dedicated to Afghanistan.

“This approach further highlights the Russophobic nature of the Westernised editorial office,” the embassy said.

Echoing Western Narratives

The Embassy further accused the newspaper of supporting the Western narratives about Moscow’s “weak economy” and “vulnerability to sanctions.”

“These are strange indicators for a country with an ‘economy vulnerable to collapse,'” the statement said.
