BIG Update on Jaunpur-Varanasi highway: To be converted into…, travel time to holy city to reduce by 2.5 hours
Jaunpur-Varanasi highway project will provide a new direction to tourism, education, industry and trade. Currently, it takes around five to six hours to travel from Lucknow to Kashi but after the completion of the corridor, the journey will take only 2.5 to 3 hours.
Jaunpur-Varanasi highway: In a major development, the Central Government has decided to construct a six-lane highway from Lucknow to Jaunpur–Varanasi with the support of the Uttar Pradesh government. The construction is expected to cost around Rs 9,500 crore and will be completed within two years. According to the National Highways Authority of India(BHARAT) (NHAI), currently, it takes around five to six hours to travel from Lucknow to Kashi but after the completion of the corridor, the journey will take only 2.5 to 3 hours. The corridor will bring major relief to commuters, traders and pilgrims. As per reports, the six-lane corridor will start from Lucknow and reach the holy city of Varanasi via Sultanpur, Amethi and Jaunpur.
What Is The Cost Of Jaunpur-Varanasi Corridor?
As per NHAI officials, the major project will cost around Rs 9,500 crore, out of which Rs 3,500 crore will be spent on land acquisition and Rs 6,000 crore will be utilised in highway construction.
The officials have readied the Detailed Project Report and the land acquisition process is likely to begin in the coming weeks. Notably, the construction of the highway will start next year. The government is targeting to complete the Jaunpur-Varanasi highway by 2028.
