Bihar Assembly Election: CEC Gyanesh Kumar to visit Patna, EC to review poll preparedness on…, Bihar SIR to be…

Bihar Assembly Election: An team of Election Commission officials led by the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, will embark on a two-day visit to Bihar capital on October 4 and 5 to review poll preparedness in the state ahead of the Bihar Assembly Election.

Why EC team is visiting Bihar?

According to officials, the Gyanesh Kumar-led EC team will meet representatives of political parties, top police and administrative officials, and its state election commission officials to review election readiness in the state. Ahead of the apex poll panel’s visit, a briefing of general, police and expenditure observers appointed by the EC for the Bihar polls is also expected to take place in Patna on October 3, they said.

The term of the 243-member Bihar legislative assembly ends on November 22, and assembly polls in the key state are likely to be held in November.

Reviewing poll preparedness in poll-bound states is a normal practice for the Commission before it announces the election schedule.

When will EC publish final voter list?

Notably, the poll authority visit to the state will come days after it is expected to publish the final electoral roll on September 30, which is being prepared after the Commission conducted the month-long Bihar Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Officials said the SIR of the Bihar voter list is in the concluding stages and the final list will be released on the due date.

The Bihar SIR, which was conducted in the election-bound state after more than two decades, has come under intense scrutiny from the Congress and RJD-led INDIA bloc opposition, who have claimed that the exercise is designed to disenfranchise crores of genuine citizens of their voting rights.

However, the Election Commission has refuted these allegations, asserting that no eligible India(BHARAT)n citizen will be left out from the final voter list, while at the same time, no ineligible person will allowed on it.
