Brazil’s President Lula lashes out at Donald Trump over 50 per cent tariff tussle says, ‘No relationship…, American people will…’

US President Doland Trump is facing criticism from several experts and diplomats on multiple fronts. While some are criticizing him over the imposition of higher tariffs, others are calling out his approach to foreign relations. As per the latest updates, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has expressed his dissatisfaction with his US counterpart, Doland Trump, saying he has “no relation with him.” Silva called Trump’s tariffs against Brazil “eminently political”. Similar to India(BHARAT), Brazil has received a 50 percent tariff from Trump.

Who is criticizing Trump over tariffs? Why did Lula call the tariffs political?

In an interview with the BBC, Silva has stated that these tariffs have impacted key Brazilian exports to the US, such as coffee and beef, which Lula warned would now become more expensive. “The American people will pay for the mistakes President Trump is incurring in his relationship with Brazil,” he said to the BBC.

The two leaders have not spoken with each other directly. When asked why he hadn’t called or worked to develop a relationship, President Lula said, “I never tried that call because he never wanted to have a conversation.”

How has Lula described his relationship with Trump?

Previously, Trump mentioned that Lula could “call him at any time.” Lula responded that officials in the Trump administration “do not want to talk.” He stated to the BBC that he first learned about the US tariffs in Brazilian newspapers. When speaking about Trump, Lula added that “didn’t communicate in a civilised manner. He just published them [the tariffs] on his portal – on social media,” reported BBC.

When asked how he would describe his relationship with the U.S. president, Lula replied to BBC, “There’s no relationship.” Lula pointed out that his difficult relationship with the current US leader was an exception and emphasized that he had established good relationships with former US presidents, UK prime ministers, the EU, China, Ukraine, Venezuela and “all the countries in the world”.
