Bullet Tain: 12 stations, 2 hours, and a 508 km journey…, Inside details of Mumbai to Ahmedabad Bullet train corridor

The dream of running a bullet train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad is now close to reality. On Friday, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that work on the stations of the high-speed rail corridor is in its final stage and the project will be completed by 2027. He added that this will be the first phase of the bullet train, which will be opened for passengers. The minister also shared a video on his official social media handle ‘X’, saying the project is a perfect blend of culture, environment, and connectivity.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Corridor

As part of the corridor, 25 bridges have been built over rivers between the two cities: 21 in Gujarat and 4 in Maharashtra. The stations on this route are being designed in a modern and unique way, while also reflecting the local culture of the region.

The stations are being built with a strong focus on the environment. They will help save electricity and at the same time provide passengers with world-class facilities. From the seating arrangements to waiting areas, every detail has been planned keeping passenger comfort in mind.

According to the Railways, these stations will set new standards for train travel in India(BHARAT).

12 Stations on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Route

The Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train will stop at 12 stations: Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane, and Mumbai. The 508-km journey will take about 2 hours and 7 minutes to complete. The train is expected to run at an operational speed of 320 km/h. Out of the total distance, about 348 km will fall in Gujarat and 156 km in Maharashtra.

Bridge over the Vishwamitri River

One of the most significant engineering achievements of the project is the bridge built over the Vishwamitri River in Vadodara, Gujarat. The bridge is 80 meters long and is considered a crucial milestone for the project. It is the 17th out of 21 bridges planned in Gujarat. The structure is supported by three pillars, one in the middle of the river and two on either side.

Building this bridge in a busy city like Vadodara was not an easy task. It required careful planning and close coordination with the Vadodara Municipal Corporation and other local authorities to complete it successfully.

What makes Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project special?

The Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train is India(BHARAT)’s first high-speed rail project, based on Japan’s world-famous Shinkansen technology. The corridor will have 12 stations: Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane, and Mumbai.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that many Japanese engineers regularly visit the project sites and are amazed by the technologies being developed in India(BHARAT). He added that Japan is planning to adopt some of these innovations in their future projects. The minister confirmed that India(BHARAT)’s first bullet train corridor will be operational by August 2027.

Why is the Bullet Train unique?

  • The train model is based on the E5 Shinkansen Hayabusa, introduced in Japan in 2011.
  • Its front has a 15-meter-long aerodynamic nose designed to cut through air resistance.
  • The train is engineered to run with minimal vibration and noise.
  • It features an advanced system that allows it to stop smoothly in emergencies without jerks.
  • The trainset includes 10 coaches, made with a 253-meter-long aluminum alloy body, combining strength and lightness.
