Cold wave alert: In a significant weather update from across the nation, cold conditions continued to grip north India(BHARAT) on Sunday. With temperatures dipping sharply across several states, the Amarnath Yatra base camp emerged as the coldest location in Jammu and Kashmir, plunging to –4.3°C, while parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan recorded minimum temperatures between 3°C and 7°C, adding to the winter chill. IMD forecasts intensification of cold wave

According to the India(BHARAT) Meteorological Department (IMD), the cold wave is set to intensify further. The agency said that cold wave conditions are “very likely” to persist in isolated pockets of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha in Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha on Monday and Tuesday, signalling continued discomfort for residents in these regions.

In Delhi, the minimum temperature was recorded at eight degrees, up from 6.8 degrees a day ago and yet 1.6 notches below normal. Also, the maximum temperature was 24.7 degrees Celsius, 0.1 notch below normal, while the relative humidity was 92 per cent in the morning, bringing a sense of chillness across the air of the national capital.

When to expected snowfall in Kashmir?

As per the weather update from the hills, the minimum temperature in Srinagar settled at minus 0.9 degrees Celsius, a rise of 3.2 degrees compared to the previous night. As per officials, Qazigund, known as the gateway town to the valley, recorded a low of minus 1 degrees Celsius, while the minimum settled at minus 0.8 degrees Celsius in north Kashmir’s Kupwara, and 1.1 degrees Celsius in south Kashmir’s Kokernag, the PTI report said.

The report also quoted meteorological department said the weather would remain generally cloudy but dry on December 6-7, and a brief spell of light snowfall at isolated places in the higher reaches of north and central Kashmir is likely on December 8.
