Costco (COST) has constructed a wildly winning business on two extremely attention-grabbing ideas: saving money by shopping in bulk, and gaining salvage admission to to unfamiliar provides by contrivance of a membership.
When Costco first opened its doors as a retailer called Note Membership in 1976, serving most efficient small companies, it hadn't hit on its winning system but — but it completely had the seed.
