New Delhi: The Centre’s panel on Delhi-NCR’s air quality on Wednesday invoked curbs below stage 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) amid a animated dip in air quality attributable to unfavourable meteorological prerequisites, in line with an unswerving account for.

Peaceable winds, low temperatures and foggy prerequisites allowed accumulation of pollutants in the plan, with the air quality index hovering from 275 on Tuesday to 396 at 6 pm on Wednesday. The India Meteorological Department and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology predicted that AQI may breach the 400 place rapidly.

Accordingly, the Commission for Air Quality Administration (CAQM) directed authorities in Delhi-NCR to “straightway invoke” all actions below stages 3 and 4 with immediate scheme.

Stage 4 curbs consist of a ban on all development activities, entry of non-main polluting trucks into Delhi, and main keen of faculty classes, other than for classes 10 and 12, to hybrid mode.

Non-main diesel trucks are prohibited from coming into Delhi, while Delhi-registered BS-IV and older diesel-speed heavy goods vehicles are banned, other than for main products and companies below Stage 4.

One day of winters, the Delhi-NCR plan enforces restrictions below GRAP, which categorizes air quality into four stages – Stage 1 (Unlucky, AQI 201-300), Stage 2 (Very Unlucky, AQI 301-400), Stage 3 (Excessive, AQI 401-450), and Stage 4 (Excessive Plus, AQI above 450).

Negative meteorological prerequisites, blended with car emissions, paddy-straw burning, firecrackers, and other local air pollution sources, consequence in risky air quality phases in Delhi-NCR at some stage in winters.
