Delhi murder: In a shocking incident, a CISF head constable fatally shot a 17-year-old slum dweller after the victim gatecrashed a wedding ceremony in search of a free meal in Delhi’s Shahdara area.
Teen shot dead by CISF constable
According to the police, the incident happened on Saturday evening when the deceased victim gatecrashed a baraat (wedding ceremony) near the community centre at DDA market in Mansarovar Park in Shahdara. A altercation took place between the teenager and a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) head constable, who shot the minor in a fit of rage, they said.
“Preliminary inquiry revealed that the juvenile, a resident of New Modern Shahdara, sustained a gunshot injury during the celebration. He was rushed to Hedgewar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shahdara, Prashant Gautam said.
The DCP said that the accused, a CISF constable currently posted in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, has been arrested and pistol, suspected to have been used in the crime, was seized from his possession.
Shooting not pre-planned, says police
As per the police, preliminary investigation suggests the shooting was not pre-planned but occurred during a sudden altercation between the teenager and the accused at the venue.
“We got to know that the victim came to eat food after he witnessed a function was going on. He jumped a wall and was initially stopped by some locals. The CISF head constable was also there, and in a fit of rage, he pulled out a gun and shot him dead,” police said.
An officer said the accused is being interrogated to ascertain the sequence of events and whether the weapon was a service firearm or a personal weapon, while the victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem analysis.
Investigators are also verifying firearm licences and forensic examination of the gun found in the possession of the accused, they said, adding further investigations are underway.
