Delhi weather update: Cold-wave conditions intensified in Delhi as the national capital recorded the season’s coldest morning with minimum temperature plummeting to 8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, the lowest November since 2022.
Delhi records season’s coldest morning
According to the India(BHARAT) Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature in Delhi dropped 3.3 notches below the seasonal average, a day after mercury crashed to 9 degrees Celsius in the capital city. Previously, Delhi has recorded the season’s coldest day on November 17 when temperatures crashed to 8.7 degrees Celsius, as per the IMD.
As per the weather agency, the lowest November temperature in Delhi was recorded at 9.5 degrees Celsius in 2024, 9.2 degrees Celsius in 2023, while November 2023 saw the mercury drop to 7.3 degrees– the lowest for the month in recent years.
Will cold wave intensify in Delhi?
Meanwhile, weather agencies have forecasted cold wave conditions to persist in Delhi as well as across northern India(BHARAT) for the coming days. According to the IMD forecast, the national capital will witnessed moderate fog on Thursday, while maximum and minimum temperatures expected to settle at 24 and 9 degrees Celsius, respectively.
On Wednesday, amid foggy conditions, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 25.5 degrees Celsius, 1.2 notches below normal, making it the second-lowest maximum temperature of the month so far, IMD said.
GRAP-3 revoked in Delhi
On the pollution front, Delhi has witnessed a slight improvement in air quality over the last three days, f0llowing which the Commission for Air Quality Management revoked GRAP-3 restrictions in Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region).
In a statement, Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said GRAP-3 curbs in Delhi have been revoked as AQI levels in the NCR saw a marked improvement. “I want to inform all Delhi residents that, as per the CAQM order, the GRAP-3 restrictions in Delhi have now been lifted, and GRAP-2 is in effect in the capital,” he said, adding that GRAP Stage-2 will now be applicable across the city.
