Dharmendra’s equation with his first wife
Prakash Kaur, the first wife of veteran actor Dharmendra, once addressed his relationship with Hema Malini. Prakash and Dharmendra married in 1954, and years later, reports suggested that the actor wed Hema Malini in 1980 without separating from his first wife. Their relationship resurfaced in public conversation recently when Prakash attended the wedding of her grandson Karan Deol, Sunny Deol’s elder son.
Dharmendra’s Marriages
Dharmendra and Hema Malini first met on the sets of Tum Haseen Main Jawaan in 1970. Their bond grew over time, even though Dharmendra was already married and a father of four, including Sunny and Bobby Deol. Despite strong opposition from Hema’s family, the couple eventually got married and later welcomed daughters Esha (1981) and Ahana (1985).
When Prakash Kaur Stood by Dharmendra
In a 1981 interview with Stardust, Prakash defended Dharmendra, saying that people unfairly labelled him a womaniser. She said any man might have been drawn to someone like Hema and insisted that many actors had second marriages. She added that while he may not have been the perfect husband, he was a devoted father who never neglected his children.

Prakash also clarified that she held no personal grudge against Hema. She said she understood the pressure Hema faced from her own family and the world, but admitted she would not have made the same choices if she were in her place. As a woman, Prakash said she empathised with Hema, but as a wife and mother, she could not agree with her decisions.
Trust That Never Broke
Despite the emotional turmoil, Prakash maintained her respect and affection for Dharmendra. She called him “the first and last man” of her life and said she always knew he would stand by her if she ever needed him. She accepted what had happened as destiny and emphasized that she never lost her trust in him because he was the father of her children.
