Does Costco take Apple Pay? How to use a mobile wallet at the warehouse club

Costco makes shopping more convenient by offering everything from groceries to prescriptions to sporting goods to outdoor products in one large warehouse club, often in bulk and at a discount. 

Apple Pay makes shopping more convenient in a different way—by allowing users to pay for purchases securely using their phones, whether they’re making a purchase online or at a physical retailer. 

But can you use Apple Pay to pay for your Costco purchase? The short answer is yes—and no.

Here’s everything you need to know about using Apple Pay—or similar mobile payment apps like Samsung Pay and Google Pay—at Costco. 

Do Costco stores take Apple Pay? 

Costco’s physical warehouses all accept Apple Pay (along with Google Pay and Samsung Pay), but there’s a catch—when it comes to credit cards, Costco stores only accept Visa, so the underlying payment method attached to your Apple Wallet must be a debit card or a Visa credit card.

The following payment methods are not accepted by Costco, even through mobile wallets like Apple Pay:

• Mastercard
• American Express
• Discover
• PayPal

Do Costco gas stations take Apple Pay? 

Just like its warehouse stores, Costco’s gas stations do accept digital wallet payments like Apple Pay, but again, the underlying payment method must be a debit card or Visa credit card.  

Can you use Apple Pay on the Costco app & Costco.com? 

Unfortunately, members cannot check out at Costco.com or on the Costco app using Apple Pay or other digital wallets. This payment option was quietly removed from Costco’s app and website in May of 2025, sparking irritation among some of the warehouse club’s members.

Does Costco take Samsung Pay and Google Pay? 

Yes, just like Apple Pay, Costco accepts Samsung Pay and Google Pay at its warehouse clubs, so long as the connected payment method is a debit card or Visa credit card.
The Costco app and website, however, do not accept payments from digital wallets. 

How to use Apple Pay at Costco

To use Apple Pay (or another digital wallet) to check out at a Costco store, first make sure that one of your connected payment methods is a debit card or Visa credit card. Then, when checking out, simply open your digital wallet on your smartphone and tap or hover over the card reader's screen when prompted.
