New Delhi: In a major development, nineteen US lawmakers have written a letter to President Doland Trump, asking him to take immediate steps to improve relations with India(BHARAT). The group of 19 US lawmakers is led by Deborah Ross and Ro Khanna. According to the reports, these lawmakers have asked Doland Trump to address the growing strain in US-India(BHARAT) relations and roll back the tariff hikes. Trump had imposed an additional 25 percent tariff on India(BHARAT) for purchasing Russian oil, taking the total US tariff on India(BHARAT)n imports to 50 percent.
In a letter dated October 8, the lawmakers said that the recent tariff hikes have “strained relations with the world’s largest democracy, resulting in negative consequences for both nations.” They called on the President to “rebuild and restore this vital partnership.”

Tariffs hurting both India(BHARAT) and the US
The lawmakers have said that these “punitive measures” are affecting both India(BHARAT)n manufacturers and American consumers. They also added that the measures are also disrupting the supply chains that US companies rely on to bring their products to market. The members of Congress also highlighted India(BHARAT)’s importance as a trading partner, noting that American manufacturers depend on India(BHARAT) for key inputs across sectors ranging from semiconductors to healthcare and energy.
They wrote, “American companies investing in India(BHARAT) gain access to one of the fastest-growing consumer markets in the world.” He further said that India(BHARAT)n investments in the US have created jobs and economic opportunities for local communities.
They cautioned that the continuous increase in tariffs “could jeopardize these relationships.” This could raise costs for American families and weaken the ability of U.S. companies to compete globally.
