e-Aadhaar app launch: Update your name, address, date of birth, mobile number in just one click from…, here’s what you need to know

The Unique Identification Authority of India(BHARAT) (UIDAI) is developing a new mobile app, likely to be called ‘e-Aadhaar’, that will let people update important details like their name, address, date of birth, and mobile number directly from their phones. The app is being designed as a one-stop solution to make the Aadhaar update process much easier, and it is expected to launch by the end of this year, according to media reports.

With this app, most Aadhaar updates will no longer require people to visit enrolment centres in person. However, biometric changes, such as fingerprint or iris updates will still need physical verification at Aadhaar centres. This rule will apply starting November 2025.

What is e-Aadhaar?

The upcoming e-Aadhaar mobile app is a new digital platform being developed by UIDAI to let users update important details such as their name, residential address, date of birth, and mobile number directly through their smartphones. The main goal is to cut down the need for physical visits to Aadhaar enrolment centres for routine updates.

The app will also use AI and Face ID technology to provide safe, quick, and reliable Aadhaar services to people across the country.

What additional document support will the app provide?

To make updates easier, the e-Aadhaar app will be able to auto-fetch verified information from other government databases. This will help users avoid manually uploading documents for verification. Some of the records that can be linked include:

• Birth certificates
• PAN cards
• Passports
• Driving licences
• Ration cards under the Public Distribution System (PDS)
• MNREGA scheme records
• Electricity bill details (for address verification)

AI and Face ID for safer access

One of the most important features of the upcoming e-Aadhaar app is the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Face ID technology. These will make the process of updating Aadhaar details not just faster but also more secure.

Instead of relying only on passwords or OTPs, users will be able to log in through facial recognition. This will lower the chances of fraud, identity theft, or unauthorized access, while giving people a smoother and safer way to manage their Aadhaar information.
