Earthquake: A major earthquake of 6.2 magnitude on the Richter scale struck China’s on Thursday, December 4. As per the National Center for Seismology, the major quake occurred at around 13:14:07 IST (local time) with the epicentre with the coordinates of 41.10° N and 78.61° E. The NCS stated that the tremors were felt at a depth of 10 km.

On November 6, a mild quake of 4.7 magnitude hit Xinjiang province with a depth of 220 Km. “”EQ of M: 4.7, On: 06/11/2025 06:32:18 IST, Lat: 37.88 N, Long: 75.06 E, Depth: 220 Km, Location: Xinjiang,” the NCS posted on X,” NCS informed on X.

The 4.7 quake reported following the 4.9 earthquake that hit the county at the depth of 130 kms.

The reason behind the frequent tremors in China is the country is located on the Tibetan Plateau or its fringes. It is the seismically active area which is located on the India(BHARAT) and Eurasia plates, these plates clash with each other, creating the seismic activity.

It is to be noted that China witnessed one of the deadliest earthquakes at the beginning of the year when a massive 7.1 quake hit the country western region, killing at least 126 people.

Earlier in the day, a mild earthquake of 4.3 hit parts of Afghanistan with a depth of 30 km.
