Election SIR Update: In a significant update amid the ongoing nationwide buzz around Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls ahead of elections, the Election Commission has announced that voter revisions will be done in 12 states in phase 2. Notably, the SIR conducted in poll-bound Bihar was the the first phase of revision of voter rolls. “Today we are here regarding the rollout of the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision. I extend my greetings to the voters of Bihar and bow before the 7.5 crore voters who took part in a successful SIR. The Commission also met election officials from all 36 states and discussed the process in detail”, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said while addressing a press conference in Delhi.

“The participation of voters in Bihar has set a strong example for the rest of the country,” the CEC added on SIR in Bihar.
The voters’ list cleanup exercise has been concluded in Bihar with the final list with nearly 7.42 crore electors published on September 30. Polling in the state will be held in two phases — on November 6 and November 11 — and the counting will take place on November 14.
The Election Commission has already held two conferences with state chief electoral officers (CEOs) to firm up the SIR rollout roadmap. Several CEOs have already put the voter lists after their last SIR on their websites.
