Elon Musk is on ChatGPT's Good Side (For Now)

ChatGPT has opinions about who is and isn't a noteworthy public figure.

Over the last few months, it's become clear that artificial intelligence (or AI) is the next big groundbreaking technology. 

Last November, OpenAI's non-profit chat generator ChatGPT was released and has since been used for purposes good, bad, and all in between. For some users, like independent business owners or school tutors, the new tech is a game-changer. But several prominent figures in the technology space have expressed concern over how it could be used in bad faith.

Few in the industry have been more vocal about ChatGPT than Tesla  (TSLA) - Get Free Report CEO Elon Musk. Musk, who alongside Microsoft  (MSFT) - Get Free Report has provided a substantial chunk of OpenAI's funding. Musk has since shared concerns about the chatbot's potential to spread misinformation.

But on Saturday, the tech mogul quoted a tweet that showed the chat generator's bias toward a handful of public figures. According to ChatGPT, Musk is a controversial figure worthy of special treatment.

Former Republican member of the South Dakota House of Representatives Isaac Latterell, the author of the tweet Musk retweeted, shared some of his own thoughts in the thread about ChatGPT.

Of course, ChatGPT is a product of what it has been taught -- a point Latterell makes in a follow-up tweet. "A lot of this is simply due to the coverage given in media outlets to these people which the training set is trained on. So in many cases, the views may simply reflect the mainstream media's views, not necessarily any chatGPT programming." 

Skeptics were quick to point out that the output could also be affected by the data Latterell input -- a claim Latterell acknowledges but denies.
