Exclusive: The Ba***ds of Bollywood actor Armaan Khera breaks silence on Sameer Wankhede’s defamation case: ‘Everyone was targeted…’

Armaan Khera, who has been seen in films like Taish, Baby John, and Songs of Paradise, as well as in series like Masaba Masaba and Citadel: Honey Bunny has steadily proven his range as an actor. Recently seen in Aryan Khan’s directorial debut, The Ba***ds of Bollywood, the actor has been receiving praise for his layered and intense portrayal of Sameer on the show.

From delivering self-aware humour to promising unforgettable cameos, the Netflix series dives into a thrilling world of India(BHARAT)n cinema. The show has been widely appreciated, though it faced a minor setback when NCB Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede filed defamation case against Netflix and Red Chillies Entertainment. Days after the incident, Armaan reacted to the controversy and extended his support for director Aryan Khan.

Armaan Khera REACTS to Sameer Wankhede’s case against The Ba***ds of Bollywood

While speaking exclusively to india.com, Armaan said the show’s intention was never to target or insult anyone. “I believe if you watch the show in its entirety, you’ll see that the team is just having fun with every aspect of industry and life. For example, do you remember the scene where Shanaya Kapoor is posing with her mom (Maheep Kapoor) for pictures, and she says, “Smile, stop behaving like Aryan”? That’s the tone of the whole show. What I love about it is that it’s not targeting just one person- everyone is a target in a humorous, entertaining way. We should all be able to take a joke; it’s healthy comedy,” he said.

Arman shared that if the show had another episode entirely on the Sameer Wankhede matter, it would have been problematic and felt like it was stretching the point- but that wasn’t the case. “If they had brought him back just to focus on him for another episode, then I’d say that’s problematic-like, let’s not pick on one individual. But that’s not what happening. The script is having fun with everybody, even the director himself, and even Shah Rukh Khan and the complexities of him being ‘the King’,” he said.

Stating that the whole matter was blown out of proportion, the Baby John actor concluded, “We’re all meant to have a light, fun experience with the show.”

About The Sameer Wankhede controversy

For the unversed, Sameer Wankhede filed a defamation suit against the show, Aryan Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Netflix, alleging that the portrayal of a narcotics officer in the series parodied and defamed him. Last week, the Delhi High Court heard Wankhede’s petition and ruled it as not maintainable.

Bankrolled by Gauri Khan under Red Chillies Entertainment, the show stars Bobby Deol, Lakshya Lalwani, Raghav Juyal, Sahher Bambba, Anya Singh, Manoj Pahwa, Manish Chaudhari, Rajat Bedi, Meherzan Mazda, Divik Sharma, Mona Singh, Gautami Kapoor, Vijayant Kohli, Neville Bharucha and Armaan Khera. Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Karan Johar, Aamir Khan and Ranveer Singh make a special cameo appearance in Aryan Khan’s show.

Premiered on September 18, The Ba***ds Of Bollywood is currently streaming on Netflix.
