Leland, Mississippi
Mass shootings have been reported in the US recently.
Leland was busier than usual on Friday, with the local high school scheduled to play a football game to mark homecoming, an annual US tradition typically held in autumn, when former students return to celebrate school spirit and community, according to the BBC.
Senator Derrick Simmons said that people were gathering and having a good time in downtown Leland, a city of less than 4,000 people. The atmosphere became chaotic and filled with fear after the shooting.
