The upgrade of the famous highway will completely transform the travel experience of people travelling between the two cities. Expected to be fully operational by March 2026, the Mumbai-Goa Highway is a 466-kilometer-long, four-lane highway running from Panvel to Sindhudurg. Passing through the Raigad and Ratnagiri districts, the highway upgrade is expected to push help the commuters of both the cities.

The state-of-the-art system will now be implemented for vehicle toll collection, utilizing satellite tracking and automatic number plate recognition technology, which will automatically deduct tolls, eliminating the need for vehicles to stop during travel. Once the highway is operational, travel from Mumbai to Goa will save both time and fuel, and tourism and business activities in the Konkan region will also gain momentum.
What has Union Minister Gadkari said on Mumbai-Goa highway?
“There were numerous difficulties with the Mumbai-Goa highway. But do not worry, we will complete the road 100 percent by this June. There were fights among brothers, court cases, and endless complications in providing compensation for land. But those issues have now been resolved, and the work on the Mumbai-Goa highway has gained momentum,” Union Minister Nitin Gadkari was quoted as saying by a NDTV report.
“The central government will soon introduce a new toll policy. I will not speak much about it now, but within the next 15 days, a new policy will be announced. Once implemented, there will be no reason for anyone to complain about tolls,” Gadkari added.
