Good news train passengers! Haldiram’s, McDonald’s, KFC, Pizza Hut, other brands to now open at railway stations

If you don’t like the food usually served at railway stations, this update is for you. India(BHARAT)n Railways has decided to allow premium food brands to open outlets at stations. Experts say this decision will benefit big Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) companies like Westlife and Sapphire Foods. This is an important move in railway catering. With this change, well-known single-brand food outlets will now be allowed inside station premises. Soon, passengers will be able to find popular brands like McDonald’s, KFC and Pizza Hut at major railway stations and enjoy better-quality meals. Right now, stations mainly have tea stalls, milk bars and juice kiosks.

The South Central Railway had requested permission to introduce QSR brands. Accepting this request, the Railway Board has agreed to allow premium brand catering outlets across all railway zones. Under this new system, brands such as McDonald’s, KFC, Pizza Hut, Baskin Robbins, Haldiram’s, Bikanervala and even non-food brands like Reebok (for retail) will be allowed to open outlets inside station areas. Passengers at major stations will soon see these outlets being set up.

Railways also announced that all these premium brand outlets will be allotted only through e-auction. A separate section will be created for this in the e-auction system. Each outlet will be given for a period of five years, similar to other catering stalls. Licence fees and other conditions will remain the same as those in the existing catering policy.
